Machu Picchu Hiking Tour Options

The most popular hike we offer, but also the most competitive to reserve, is the Traditional 4-Day Inca Trail Hike. All of the Inca Trail Hikes require a permit that can sell out quickly. However, we also offer alternative hikes to Machu Picchu which are readily available since they do not require a permit.

Below is a brief overview of our hiking tour options:

Inca Trail – 2 Days/1 Night

This is a 2-Day Hike that traverses the same trail the Incas used to arrive at Machu Picchu. This short hike will allow you to view historical Inca ruins, the beautiful flora and fauna of the National Park, the cascading waterfalls, and the citadel of Machu Picchu.

Traditional Inca Trail Hike – 4 Days/3 Nights

As the most popular hike we offer, the 4-Day Inca Trail hike leads you on the same path and stone steps used by Inca royalty to arrive in Machu Picchu. You will have the opportunity to view many farming terraces and archaeological sites used by the Incas for lodgings, administrative duties, and religious ceremonies. In addition, the numerous flora and fauna changes as you pass through various ecological zones during the hike. This is an ideal hike if you want to take in the beautiful scenery and intriguing history of the Incas and Machu Picchu.

This hike requires a permit and sells out very fast. Only 500 permits are available per day, and a permit is needed for both hikers and tour operator staff. It is important to book ASAP, even up to 7-8 months in advance, in order to ensure you are able to secure a reservation for this hike. Machu Picchu Inca 4-day trail hike is 45 kilometers or 28 miles long.

Salkantay Plus Inca Trail Hike – 6 Days/5 Nights

The 6-Day Salkantay Plus Inca Trail Hike is for you if you are a trekker who wants a challenging Machu Picchu mountain hike that takes you to one of the highest passes – Inca Chiriasca – at 5,000 meters (16,400 feet), before following a remote valley prior to linking to the Traditional Inca Trail.

Alternative Hikes to Machu Picchu

Our alternative hikes and Machu Picchu Day Tours are great options for when Inca Trail permits sell out, or for travelers who want to do a hike that is less crowded.
