Do you want to break free of the crowds that hike the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu? Why not sign up for our Lares Trail Trek. This is the “community trek” – an escape into a landscape inhabited by natives living life as it was and is in small, remote Andean villages. Our tour is one that will introduce you to Peru’s hidden culture over four days and three nights.
Brightly Colored Ponchos, Alpacas and Llamas and Guinea Pigs, Oh My!!
The route we will take you on winds through countryside untouched by Western commercialization. In fact, life for the inhabitants of this remote part of Peru has changed but little over the past 500 years. Our trek will introduce you to several communities and those who live there. You will not only learn but also partake of their lifestyle.
Among the villages you will visit are:
- Calca: A small town with a lively market
- Lares: Enjoy the calming and therapeutic waters of its famous hot springs
- Wacawasi: Renowned for its homemade clothing and other textiles, you may catch a glimpse of traditional garb including bright colored ponchos and hats.
- Patacancha: Here the local experience continues. We will meet with a local family and even try a traditional meal – if you so desire – guinea pig
- Pallata: Not far from this village, we can visit the Inca ruins of Pumamarca
- Ollantaytambo: Lying beside the river, this town features a lovely market square as well as Incan Colca or storehouses
- Aguas Calientes: This is the final stop before Machu Picchu
